When a hair consultation turns into a lifelong connection—with kindness, confidence, and a touch of glow.
A Hair Struggle and a Helping Hand
It was the mid-90s. I was a schoolteacher battling relentless hair fall and a frizzy mop that refused to behave. A colleague gently nudged me toward a hairstylist she trusted.
“Go see Mukesh,” she said. “He knows hair like no one else.”
Mukesh’s salon, Face Value, was tucked into a quiet corner of Kothrud. He was already a sought-after aesthetician and stylist, tending to Pune’s elite. I, on the other hand, was a modest teacher with a modest salary. But the moment I met him, all those thoughts melted away.
First Impressions That Melted Doubts
He was calm, kind, and respectful. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just good advice and a gentle tone. He explained how the borewell water I was using could be damaging my hair and suggested a simple treatment plan. That day marked the beginning of not just a self-care journey—but a bond rooted in trust, curiosity, and deep respect.
Lessons Beyond the Mirror
As a teacher, I was used to observing people. Every visit to Mukesh felt like a masterclass in human behavior. While working on my hair or skin, he’d talk—about skincare, makeup, and more intriguingly, about people. What made them feel seen. What they expected. His insights fascinated me.
I’d reflect on them and draw parallels to my own classroom. Whether in a salon or a school, understanding people mattered.
The Day I Said, “Facial? Never!”
Then came the day he suggested a facial. I froze.
“Facial? My mother will turn in her grave! She believed in turmeric and milk. That’s it.” 🤣
Mukesh smiled warmly. “Your mother’s wisdom is gold. But times have changed. You’re a working woman, riding a two-wheeler, exposed to pollution… and you need to de-stress.”
It made sense. Still, I hesitated. So he invited me to be a demo client—free of cost—while teaching a group of beauty therapists. I liked the experience. Eventually, I began treating myself to a facial every six months. My mindset had shifted. I started to value taking care of myself.
Distance, Yet Never Apart
When I moved away from Pune, I explored spas in my new city—often guided by Mukesh’s suggestions. Yet he teased me once:
“You’ll pay strangers who don’t know what they’re doing, but you won’t let me do your facials?”
It stung—but only because it came from a place of care. Even while I was away, he’d recommend products, safe spas, and remind me to prioritize myself. And every time I returned to Pune, I made it a point to meet him—and book a session.
A Stylist Who Spotted More Than Skin Deep
During one visit, he noticed pigmentation on my face and urged me to get it checked. His suspicion? A liver issue. He was right.
A dermatologist referred me to a physician, and tests revealed I had diabetes. Thanks to Mukesh, I took timely steps to manage my health.
“I Don’t Care Only for the Rich and Famous”
Years later, I asked him something that had lingered in my mind:
“Mukesh, how come you always gave me your services even when you had celebrity clients?”
He smiled. “I don’t take care only of the rich and famous. I take care of knowledgeable people, too.”
That line melted my heart. It wasn’t about status—it was about soul.
Wedding Glow and a Dream Fulfilled
I’d always admired his makeup skills and secretly hoped I’d get to experience them. That dream came true at my son’s wedding. Mukesh did my makeup and hairstyle for both the mehendi and the wedding. He even arranged for someone to drape my saree. I felt like royalty—graceful, glowing, and grounded. A version of me I had never met before.
Grey, Bold, and Beautiful
Later, I told him I didn’t want to color my hair anymore. He smiled and said, “Great. Stop it. In fact, let’s cut it short.”
I trusted him fully. Over a phone call, he guided the hairstylist, and I got a bold, liberating boy cut. People called it daring. Someone even said, “Madam, you make grey fashionable!” 😄😎
I just smiled. For me, it was simply following Mukesh’s advice—with trust and joy.
The Glow That Comes from Being Seen
Most recently, he noticed my face lacked its usual glow. He suggested a new product—and it worked wonders. His suggestions are never casual. He studies skin, uses premium international products, essential oils, and keeps updating his skills. He’s travelled the world training other makeup artists.
But beyond all this, Mukesh has something rarer—a human touch. You’re not just a client. You’re seen, heard, and valued. We don’t talk every day, but I know he’s there for me. And that’s a relationship you don’t find in many salons—or even in many people.
More Than Beauty—A Bond That Endures
From a worried woman battling hair fall to a confident woman embracing her silver strands—my journey with Mukesh has been so much more than beauty. It’s been a journey of trust, transformation, and timeless friendship.
Over the years, I’ve realized that true expertise—whether in a classroom or a salon—comes with empathy. Mukesh didn’t just restore my hair or my skin; he restored my faith in the power of genuine human connection.
