Pooja Singh’s historic 1.93m high jump to win Asian U20 gold did more than shatter India’s senior national record. Her journey from practicing on village rice sacks to mastering visual grace on the world stage redefines the beauty of flight.
The daughter of a construction worker, Pooja’s journey wasn’t built in world-class stadiums. It was built with jugaad, persistence, and countless jumps when nobody was watching.
At the U20 Championships in Hong Kong, the 19-year-old cleared 1.93m, breaking a senior national record that had stood untouched for 14 years and becoming the first Indian woman to win the high jump title at the event. Before that, she had already crossed 1.91m to better her own U20 national mark.
And at just 19, she hasn’t just raised the bar for Indian athletics, she’s raised it for every young girl who’s been told to dream smaller.
