I am a person who shies away from social media. Though I have my accounts on various platforms, but use them seldomly. Posting on social media is invariably the last thing on my mind. To tell you how novice I am, I sometimes even need help to repost on Instagram.

At times when I am on social media, good feeds pop up! Yesterday was another such time. As I was using my thumb to the fullest to scroll the stories, this amazing post from Sarah Sham popped up! It got me hooked. The thumb too stopped co-operating and it wouldn’t move!

In the reel, Sarah was narrating an annual ritual she has with her family. She says that at the end of the year, as a family they decide to go to a peaceful and non-crowded destination. The utmost important reason is to stay away from all the noise and enjoy with the immediate family. Another thing they do, which really caught my attention, was that they discuss about the year that went by and what lays ahead in the coming year!

For the year that went by, they discuss – what were their achievements, what goals did they not hit, what went wrong in the year, how could we have done better, and also about family, children etc.

The next discussion is about the next year – what should be the business targets, where should the focus be, what could be the trends to be aware of, whether they need to add more support to achieve goals, what things need to be honed in the children, family goals etc.

I thought that this a great ritual to have! While all of us are excited and in celebratory mode on the new year eve, do we really have an analysis of the year that went by; and of the year that is coming? Have we given it a thought to have a VISION for the next year so that we work accordingly for the year! It will be a guiding light for us.

After seeing this reel by Sara, I wish to make this an annual ritual too. It will make me accountable to myself and to my immediate family. Also, it gives me a lot of clarity on the road to take. My focus points become very clear rather than just going by the flow.

I have decided to have roadmap for broad categories

  • Professional – business goals, breaking down those targets, roadmap for the next year, developing networks, etc.
  • Personal – targets for my health, honing any skills which I have been postponing for so many years, trips to be done, ticking off bucket list items, etc
  • Family – how many days do I wish to spend together without any distractions, is there any project/ drive which we can do together, adding a specific character trait in my children, etc.

I know this will take a lot of effort, and thinking. Also, I know that 95% of us who are reading this blog won’t do this exercise! Yet, I feel like sharing for those 5%!

2026 seems like a year of turmoil across the globe. Whether it is geo-political issues, neighbouring country disputes, spreading of hatred, government policies, loss of jobs, new world order, and so much more. It seems a chaotic year!

Yet we must go through this! Through this turmoil, if we have a VISION for 2026, it will certainly help! While there might be disorder around us, but if we have our goals and targets in place it will help us focus!

Thanks to Sarah for sharing this wonderful personal ritual. I really wish to make this a ritual for me too! Let me start with VISION 2026!
