Monday se………….

About 1.5 year back , I had taken a break from my gym PuneFitLife. I have a few gym mates who are very consistent, sincere, highly motivated for their workout. I often join them for (lemon) tea after gym. My workout batch would be 6:30 am and tea meets would happen around 7:50am.

One Wednesday, I joined them for tea, Naresh sir asked me, “Ma’am when are you joining gym?” I immediately responded, “Sir, Monday se!” To my surprise he smiled and said, “Monday khabhi nahi aata Madam (Monday never comes).” I told myself, “He doesn’t know about my commitment and consistency, and hence he is saying this.” I felt he was talking gibberish. As he loves to talk a lot.

Monday came, I couldn’t make it to gym because of a late Sunday night. That entire week I was unable to attend gym due to some or other reasons. Now that statement by Naresh Sir, “Monday khabhi nahi aata”, was suddenly making sense. It actually hit me.

I realised – to start with anything good, why do I have to wait for Monday?

Let’s see if you can relate to this/ Have you told this to yourself –

  • I shall stop drinking caffeine from Monday
  • I will be off sugar from Monday
  • I will start exercising from Monday
  • I will stop alcohol from Monday
  • I will stop smoking/ hukka from Monday
  • I will be on diet from Monday
  • I will wake up early from Monday
  • I will be off social media from Monday
  • I shall meditate from Monday
  • I will begin reading from Monday
  • etc…..

Bahut Kuch , Monday se hi kyu karna hai, ya phir 1st of the month se hi kyu? (Why do lot of things need to be begin from Monday or 1st of the month?)
Shouldn’t the good things be implemented immediately? Why do they have to wait for a particular day or date?
Do we ever postpone to eat ice cream?

Do we ever postpone our plans to meet our friends ?

Do we ever postpone movie nights or party nights?

Do we ever postpone shopping?

Do we ever postpone travel plans?

etc…..

If we think deep, painful and efforts filled actions are always delayed, whereas pleasurable actions are done soon.

I have decided that I shall practice good habits the moment I realise it, as I agree with what Naresh Sir says, “Monday , khabhi nahi aata!”

It is subconsciously ingrained in us to postpone necessary things and a new date / day is just a way to bluff ourselves. I remember a quote ‘Anything that is necessary should be compulsory’
