DATED – 12th December 2015
One emotion which occurs naturally to most of us is – WORRY. Most, if not all, would have gone through this – when we hear about something which is concerning/negative, we think of the worst to have had happened. Have you gone through this?
My question to you – Is it worth your WORRY? Which means, if you worry, does it change anything? Or do things remain the same? In doing this, you would have surely gained a few anxious moments, heartbeats skip, drop in BP, etc. On the other hand, if you decide to worry about things that are in your control, circumstances will not shake you.
Let’s see if I can translate my thoughts on this through a few examples –
- One of your close relatives is seriously ill. Worrying about his health won’t improve anything. Instead, how about worrying to get the best doctor to treat him?
- Your son hasn’t reached home from school. Instead of worrying what would have happened, why don’t you worry about how to find out where he is?
- The world is in recession, which causes you to worry about your business. Does it improve sales? According to me, it will get worst. Instead, if you worry about how you can still make business successful in spite of the recession, the next million-dollar business idea might just be yours.
- You might be worried of losing a relationship you cherish. The more you worry, the more abnormal you become relating to that person. If you can worry about how to add excitement and create lovely moments in that relationship, it will bloom further.
- If you worry about losing in a sport in spite of putting best practice, your 100% might never come out on field. Instead, if you worry about giving more than 100% dedication and commitment to practices, performance on the final day would certainly be great.
- As a female, does your personal security worry you? Instead of getting scared every time you step out alone, how about worrying to take the necessary precautions and avoid any untoward incident?
- You might get worried about losing your job. Instead, if you worry about being immaculate in your work, there is no chance that you will be kicked out. Everyone wants good, efficient and result oriented people to work at their office.
- Stop worrying about losing the data on your laptop / mobile. Instead worry about securing it or backing up in a way that whatever happens, your data is still available to you.
- There is no point on constantly worrying whether your interior designer will design a dream home that you had wanted. Instead, worry about selecting the right designer who will help build it for you.
More often than not, we worry about things that are absolutely not in our control. (Take a minute here to think – what all you worry about?) The beauty is – how much ever we worry, cry, or crib nothing changes; things remain the way they are. But if we choose to focus on things / areas that we can do something about, it might just change the way we live our lives. We will feel more in control of our own lives, and learn to have faith / gratitude for God.
Vis-à-vis my life –
This is totally a new concept for me too. As I was reflecting my life with this concept, I feel that though worry comes by default in negative situations, but I am able to immediately shift to – what I can do in this situation. Apart from ‘what I can do’, I immediately tell my mind – what is supposed to happen will anyway happen. I choose not to stay in that worrisome state for long.
If we can anchor on worrying about things in our control, we can lead a much happier and a more enthusiastic life. Next time you feel worried about anything, remember me, and ask yourself – IS IT WORTH YOUR WORRY?
