It was the day of the big move—from Karve Nagar to Kharadi. My home, which had seen years of stories and memories, was now a flurry of packed boxes, taped drawers, and careful goodbyes to familiar walls. I was shifting closer to my office, and like most moves, this one was brimming with logistics and last-minute panic.
Uttam Kaka, our ever-reliable family handyman and driver, had arrived with a tempo. He’d helped us move before and had taken charge once again—his calm demeanor a steadying presence amidst the chaos. As the furniture was being loaded—bedframes, shelves, tables, and all the fragile memories wrapped in newspaper—I had planned to drive the car myself, with the TV and glassware securely placed inside.
But in all my planning, I had forgotten one crucial thing: the Scooty.
There it stood in the corner of the driveway, quiet and untouched, as if patiently waiting for me to remember it. I hadn’t thought through how it would reach Kharadi. Strapping it to the tempo wasn’t an option. Nor was leaving it behind.
Just then, as I was mentally weighing poor ideas, someone appeared at my door.
“Hello, how are you?”
It was Narendra. I blinked. “Narendra? What a surprise! What brings you here?” He smiled, “I was running errands nearby and thought I’d just drop in to say hello.”
I was stunned—not just by his timing, but by the sheer coincidence of it all. Narendra is one of my former students from SPM English School. It had been years, but that unmistakable warmth in his tone hadn’t changed.
Me: “Narendra, I’m shifting to Kharadi. The tempo’s being loaded, I’m taking the car… but I don’t know what to do about the Scooty. Can you help by riding it over to the new address?”
He looked slightly ruffled—understandably so—but nodded after a pause. “I’ll finish my work quickly and bring it over in a couple of hours.”
Super! It would also take me a few hours to reach the new address. I handed him the Scooty keys and scribbled down the new address. It felt a little crazy, but in that moment, I knew—I just knew—it would be fine.
A few hours later, as Uttam Kaka and I began arranging furniture in the new flat, Narendra walked in, keys in hand, helmet in the other. Calm. Smiling. As if this were the most natural thing in the world. To this day, I still can’t get over that moment. That coincidence. That unannounced visit. That perfect timing.
You can call it fate. You can call it luck. I call it angels. Sometimes, help doesn’t come with warning signs or scheduled plans. It comes with a simple knock on the door and a familiar voice saying, “Hello, how are you?”

Yes….such moments are unexplained….some help from HIM
Exactly! Those moments are beyond explanation, and it’s as if some divine intervention guides us. Beautifully said!
Hey this happens almost to everyone at least once. Sometimes it is a happy coincidence like in your case abd Sometimes it is weird scenario. Like in my case, there is a small temple on my way to catch the office bus. Daily I just join hands to the devi, the main deity and 6 other deities placed around in a pillar like structure. I chant few prayers and move ahead to work. One day a man comes to me and says pranam and informs me that he is at the gurdwara a little ahead and helps people get their death certificate and any other help post a death to assist a grieving family. I had never met him before but he has been around for ages. Just few days after this incident my father in law expired and some days later my wife visited the same person to get assistance for getting the death certificate and other formalities which helped and got it done. I never met him again though my wife told me she enquired around and got to know he still visits the gurdwara. Simple strange and weird.
Wow, what a strange coincidence! It’s amazing how life works in mysterious ways. Your story gives me goosebumps – the connection between the temple, the man, and the timely help during a difficult time is truly incredible.
Sweet! Really so much few things matter…liked the timing…so bang on!!

No better word than ‘angels’.
‘careful goodbyes to familiar walls’ – just loved the way in which you have expressed. The bond and vibes we share with our home makes it extremely difficult while leaving it. Just like while parting from a loved one.

The memories we make at home stay with us forever. It’s tough to leave, but life’s journey means moving forward when the time comes
