The Positive Diary

व्यक्ती आणि अभिव्यक्ती — The Self and Its Expression (with a Side of Chai)

Loading

Let’s start with life’s biggest question.
Not “Why are we here?”
Not even “What’s for dinner?”

But—who are we, really?

You? Me? We’re more than just our Aadhaar cards, LinkedIn bios, and the person awkwardly smiling in family photos. In Marathi, we’ve got two gems of words:
व्यक्ती – the person, the self.
अभिव्यक्ती – expression. The art of letting that self escape into the world, without tripping over itself.

And somewhere in between the two… lies everything interesting.

व्यक्ती – The Inner Masala Mix

Let’s be honest—each of us is a walking paradox. We love people, but hate phone calls. We want to stay fit, but also want that third samosa. That’s the व्यक्ती—the glorious, slightly confused, forever-evolving self.

This person is more than the salary slip or the school pickup routine. It’s that quiet part of you that lights up while dancing when no one’s watching… or dramatically lip-syncing in the mirror like you’re auditioning for Indian Idol (and winning, of course!).

But here’s the thing—if that magical, messy self never comes out to play, isn’t that a bit of a waste?

🎨 अभिव्यक्ती – The Grand Reveal (Minus the Drama)

Now comes अभिव्यक्ती—the stage, the mic, the paintbrush, or the Instagram reel (no judgment). It’s what happens when your inner voice finally gets a speaker.

Expression doesn’t have to be loud or Insta-worthy. It can be as small as doodling in your planner, experimenting in the kitchen, singing badly in the shower, or finally telling someone, “Hey, I really liked that thing you said.”

It’s basically your व्यक्ती going: “Hello world, I’m here! Please be nice.”

And trust me, your अभिव्यक्ती doesn’t need to look like someone else’s Pinterest board. Maybe you express through poetry. Or spreadsheets. Or passive-aggressive sticky notes (which, by the way, is also an art form).

💃 The Daily Dance Between Me and Me

There’s no one final version of “you” sitting around in a temple of wisdom somewhere. You change. Your vibe changes. Your playlists change. (You know it’s true—you went from ghazals to gully rap in one week.)

And with every change, your way of expressing yourself evolves. Some days you’re a walking TED Talk. Other days, you’re just trying not to cry in a Zoom meeting. It’s okay. We’ve all been there.

The magic is in showing up—however you are. Because expression isn’t performance. It’s presence.

So, Why Bother?

Because when you express, you decompress.
When you don’t? You bottle it all up until one day you explode because someone used your fancy coffee mug without asking. (True story.)

Abhivyakti is not optional. It’s survival.
It’s how we tell the world, “I exist, and I have thoughts, and maybe also a few jokes.”
And more often than not, someone hears that and goes, “Same, bro.”

A Friendly Challenge

So ask yourself: Am I expressing myself, or just replying to emails and nodding in meetings like a polite robot?
Are you letting your व्यक्ती breathe a little? Or is it stuck under laundry, deadlines, and the pressure to be “normal”?

Go ahead—write that weird poem. Post that messy artwork. Start that blog. Wear those bright socks. Speak. Scribble. Sing. Bake. Binge-watch and then review it like a critic. Create. Communicate.

And if someone asks what you’re doing, just say:
“Abhivyakti karatoy.” 😌

To wrap it up like a perfect vada pav – you’re not just a human doing things.
You’re a vibrant व्यक्ती with something worth expressing.

So go make a little noise. Add a little color. Be a bit dramatic if you must. The world needs your spark.

And hey—if this post made you smile, send it to a friend who could use a gentle kick of inspiration (or a reminder to wear the bright socks).

Let’s create, laugh, live—and express—one delightful mess at a time.
