Rama - The Warrior Saint

Loading

In  Bhagavad Geeta,  Chapter 10 Verse 31, while describing himself with the help of metaphors of being greatest in every aspects Krishna Says “Among the purifier, I am the wind; Amongst the warriors I am Rama, Amongst the fishes I m the Shark and amongst river I m Ganga.” Isn’t this line an irony? Krishna in Geeta has defined Rama as the greatest warrior. Also people always worship Rama with a bow and arrows in hands. But a weapon in hands of Rama, this idea itself is so contradictory isn’t it? If you imagine the character of Rama, his body, his eyes, his individuality and you will find there is no relation of His Personality with weapons.

Rama with weapons is a Paradox itself. Neither there is any violence within Rama, nor any competition, nor any jealousy. Rama is harmless nor he wants anyone to suffer, still an arm along with an image of Rama is beyond imagination. Had he been with a flower of lotus in his hand, some would have been able to digest. But a bow on his shoulder doesn’t match up with his personality. Rama is the symbol of a poet and his poem; his eyes are symbol of love. While walking, Rama walks in a way that non other is harmed by his feet. Then why this bow and arrow for Rama?

Weapons in the hands of Ravaana suits his image, it matches his character. Mahavira or Buddha without weapons also suits their respective individuality and the logic matches. But Rama whose personality is like Buddha and image portrayed with weapon like Ravaana doesn’t match. And still Krishna says among all the warriors, I m Rama. Despite many braves coming before and after him, Krishna chose him for some reason for sure. To know more about Krishna refer to: https://thepositivediary.com/krishna-the-utterly-incomparable/

Rama- The Choice

Weapons are dangerous in the hands of Ravaana because within him there is nothing except violence. And violence along with weapons always causes destruction. Ravaana with weapons symbolizes power in wrong and corrupt hands. Power attracts only the weak and corrupt people. Power in wrong hands is dangerous for community. On the other hand we have Buddha and Mahavira whose characters are also pure and simple to understand like a formula. Their character is good and their personality is sober, full of non violence and without any weapon or power hence harmless to all. But even this personality can be dangerous. All good characters will move away from power, leaving all the power in the hands of wrong people. This indeed unintentionally is strengthening wrong people which weakens the society. Good character will leave the field and evils will be more powerful.

Rama is dual; as Good as Buddha and as Powerful as Ravaana. There can never be harmony in the world, till there is a homogeneous fusion between the Good and the Powerful. The good will always be pacifist and peace loving, Powerful will always be destructive and oppressive. The Good will keep praying and the Powerful will keep ruling. Rama has a different dimension. Character like Rama is difficult to find. You can find Jesus or Buddha, also Ravaana or Hitler can be found. Rama is rare and different.

Rama- An Ideology

And it must be noted that only a personality like Rama can use the weapons of Ravaana against Ravaana. Any other person using power against Ravaana, will eventually turn him like Ravaana cause power corrupts as mentioned by Danton. We have seen this example in World War II. As countries who fought against dictator, eventually became dictator themselves. That’s the power of Ravaana, which is his biggest victory, who ever wins, its Ravaana ideology that wins. And that’s the speciality of Rama who using power against Ravaana, remained Rama himself as tender as always, and as harmless as always. And this is the true defeat of Ravaana and his ideology. The Power not changing the individuality of Rama makes him a symbol of a greatest warrior.

Always remember, whatever we do, the sum of all our deeds is our soul and character. On the basis of the deeds an individual and his character can be judged and understood. But for Rama, all action and deeds are separate from his soul and character. For him, his action and character are two banks of river. You can judge the character of Rama on the basis of his actions. Your character becomes zero when your deeds are separated from your personality. But in case of Rama, his character and morality remains unaffected. Even if the actions are separated from his individuality.

Rama is the greatest example of balance between Soberness and Power, So is an example of balance between Action and Soul. Hence he is declared as the greatest warrior among st all. And for me the symbol of satisfaction. Rama- the only saintly warrior known.

  1. Justified enough….
Rama is the way of ideal life.
Ravana is the way of wicked.
The Ramayana is the story of this world fallen from one time heaven to a hell.
The fight or war is the war within to get through the vices we all hold.
