DATED – 25th September 2017
Usually we seldom get printed letters/ documents these days. As a result checking letterbox is not a daily chore (as against checking emails). As I had gone home for lunch today, I checked my letterbox as I was expecting my Aadhar Card. Since Aadhar was not there, I just took the bunch and moved inside. While segregating the mails, I saw a few inland letters neatly wrapped in a plastic. The moment I took it in my hand, I knew it was my sister Juhi’s handwriting. On opening I saw that there were six inland letters, for each member in the house. She had written it on her birthday – 9th July! (and we opened it today!)
It was a letter of appreciation that she wrote for everyone! She is an awesome writer. When she writes a letter filled with appreciation, your chest swells with pride. That’s what happened to me! But more than that, IT MADE MY DAY!
That letter from my dear sister made my day. There are numerous ways that each one of us (without investing too much time and money), can make someone’s day –
- Send an appreciation whatsapp/ SMS to atleast one person every week!
- Smile at the person standing next to you on a signal
- Give a small Parle-G biscuit to kids on the road
- Ask your driver if he had his food
- Call someone and tell them you felt like listening to their voice
- Tell a cab person that he has maintained his car so well
- Appreciate the dressing sense of your employee if you think they are stylish
- Buy your spouse their favourite chocolate
- Ask the auto driver how business has been today
- Give a hug to your parents
- Buy your kid a toy they have been coaxing you to get them; without it being their birthday
- Initiate meeting a long lost friend for a coffee
- Call your loved ones to wish them on their birthday
- Making tea/ coffee/ food for your wife
- Spend quality time with your spouse without mobile
- Hold the door open for person behind you
- Buy things from people selling on streets without bargaining
- Pat the back of the waiter who served you in the restaurant
- Genuinely appreciate a quality of a kid infront of their parents
- Make someone smile
- Make eye contact while talking to someone
All of us are extremely busy in our daily routines! In that day, if we could spare a few seconds, and make someone’s day, we would have lived a lovely and worthwhile day. Every now and then all of us do things that will make our loved one feel special. My idea is to make this a daily habit. After few days of practicing this, you will realize that you seem to be making someone’s day more often than not without any special efforts.
If you like this blog, then the person to appreciate is my sister – Juhi. By writing that cute letter she made my day! Likewise, can you be that person who makes someone’s day?
