dear Mr.Pawar
The Covid-19 has left each one of us dumbstruck. None of us would have expected something like this coming up anytime in our lifetime. It seemed as if humanity was sailing through and things were going great guns! The past 15 months have probably been one of the toughest times for the human race – loss of income/ jobs, passing away of near and dear ones, loneliness, loss of space for a few, and much more. But even in such grim times, some people like our dear Mr. Pawar stand out and show us how to keep moving ahead
No, I am not talking about our politician Mr. Sharad Pawar, but I am talking about our office tea vendor – Pawar. My respect for him went up many folds a couple of days back.
The shops for non-essential services were allowed to be open until 4pm. Pawar goes around with his teakettle every single working day to various offices in our market. He comes to our office between 4.15-4.30pm. After mostly being at home for almost two months during the lockdown, I started going to office from Tuesday, 8th June 2021.
As I stood in my office, the watch showed that it was about 3.40pm. Out of the blue, a thought came – if Pawar really means business, he should be here with his tea before 4pm closure. If he doesn’t make it before that, he would have lost business for the day and maybe until the lockdown eases further.
The thought came and within a few minutes, our dear Mr. Pawar walks into our office by 3.45pm. Gosh – this fellow is amazing and knows that missing out on business is not a smart thing to do. It’s an obvious thing to do, isn’t it? But, this obvious is not really so obvious for many of us. Let me explain –
- Being punctual to a meeting is an obvious thing to do. Are we?
- Parting with a habit, which is detrimental to our health/ future should be just dropped. Have we?
- Choosing to do important things over watching a movie/ series on OTT is a no brainer. How many times we do the opposite?
- If I don’t take this business decision, I will lose money. What are we waiting for?
- The kids shouldn’t be shouted at irrespective of the situation. Don’t we still feel that raising the voice is a way to control the kids?
- I have limited funds for now and I need to be careful not to do unnecessary expenses inspite of the lures. Do we still give into temptations?
- I must be updated on the new developments in my field. Do we give enough time to learn new things or we just take the day as it comes?
- Respect is everything in a marriage. Do we respect our life partner even if we differ on certain things?
- All that our parents want is quality time. Are we too busy with our smartphones that they feel ignored?
- Our maids too can have some emergencies. Is it fair to judge them by saying that they are making up stories to take a leave?
- Setting our priorities in place helps us to discipline our life. Do we even know what should be our priorities?
- Seeing the current pandemic, health and exercise should be of utmost important. Have we even taken those steps for our personal benefit?
- Anything done consistently gives great results. Are we consistent in doing this?
- After crossing a certain age, there are certain lifestyle changes we need to adopt. What are we waiting for?
Pawar owns a flat in our market in a good society. His business – Shri Ashtvinayak Snacks Center is listed on Google Maps with 51 reviews and 3.9 score. He has good head over his shoulder. Pawar knows the importance of health and takes all necessary precautions for himself and his customers. He knows how to keep his customers happy so that their business can continue coming to him. His son Ajay has already completed his graduation.
Pawar has a shop, which is no more than 5ft X 5ft. But the lesson and realization he gave me yesterday supersedes the size of his business place. That, which is obvious better be obvious. Else no one, but you will be the loser! Thank You for this valuable lesson – dear Mr. Pawar

Pawar’s chai and my office ambience! Perfect combo!
Interesting to see that such a small service has not gone unnoticed.
I believe the scale and business may differ but the discipline applies to one and all… if success is to be guaranteed…
Nice observation & right analysis Amit…
