DATED – 31st October 2015
The other day as we were going off to sleep, my wife Arpita was asking me – what makes you be positive in any situation no matter what? My immediate response to her was – because I have an uncluttered mind. I don’t think too much, neither do I analyse too much. Even if someone has said something that is negative, I think about it and how useful/ truthful it is. In case I need to change, I do so or else forget about it.
I feel that when we have an uncluttered mind, it gives our mind space to be creative and think constructively in various directions. We can then think out of the box and do many things which we would otherwise miss in the daily routine. When good people think creatively about various things in life, to me it becomes GOD’S WORK.
- As a businessman, think out of the box of ways to satisfy or enthrall clients. They will love coming to you. The money you earn can be used to give all comforts to your family. That will be God’s work.
- As a parent, think – what can I do so that my child becomes the next APJ or Sachin Tendulkar. What role should I play? How should I parent him/her? Give the world some awesome citizens. That will be God’s work.
- As an architect / interior designer, can you find out ways to make a client’s house look fantastic without they having to overshoot their budgets? Are there some materials, services that can help them save? That will be God’s work.
- As an employee, understand that your needs are being taken care of by your employer through the salaries. In your scope of work, is there a way you can help your employer earn more money, save time and resources, create goodwill for him? That will be God’s work.
- As a teacher, can you teach in a manner that your subject becomes the most loved one? The kids look forward to attending your class even if they have fever? Moreover, they carry on that interest for a lifetime. That will be God’s work.
- As a spouse, think – what is your role in his/her life? With your words, facial expressions and actions, what is the impact that is happening in their life. Do they look at you as an inspiration or a threat? Romeo-Juliet, Adam-Eve, Laila-Majnu are all old stories. How about your married life being added in these names? That will be God’s work.
- As a child, can you be creative and give memorable moments to your parents, time and again, while they are alive? Make their life worth it now. That will be God’s work.
Vis-à-vis my life –
I cherish the moments I have with myself. I always get flooded with lots of creative and positive thoughts when I listen to myself. Lots of thoughts for blogs come when I am with myself; certain improvement ideas at business happen when I am uncluttered; ideas for creating beautiful moments occur when I think of those people, etc.
I don’t believe in doing pooja, going to various temples, giving donations etc to please God (whatever name you call Him). I firmly believe – Incase God existed, seeing me do what I am doing in my life, will He bless me or will He curse me? To me that is a litmus test which we all must pass.
An age-old saying is – An empty mind is a devil’s workshop. I think it is time to replace this age-old saying with a modern one. If an uncluttered mind can be directed to think in a positive and constructive way, it will be very apt to say – an empty mind is GOD’S WORKSHOP.
