I love being fit. Currently my wife Arpita and I are becoming fitter with this amazing trainer – Akram Sir. He is unbelievably punctual and has tremendous knowledge. While exercising last week, he mentioned a concept – F.I.T.T., which I caught onto.
To improve the physical state of the body, F.I.T.T. is compulsory – F – Frequency (how many times you workout), I – Intensity (how intensely do you workout), T – Type (do you keep improving of types of exercises you do), T – Time (how many times do you repeat these exercises).
Though I was standing and taking a shower, F.I.T.T. was running in my mind. I expanded it a little further and realised that it is absolutely apt in anything we do in life too –
- If you want to build your marriage, implement F.I.T.T. – have frequent conversations with your spouse, be intensely involved in listening without the mobile and TV, have a variety of conversations and not just b*&^%ing, have meaningful conversations enough number of times
- If you want to be a great parent, F.I.T.T. can be awesome – frequently just sit and listen to the child like his/her friend, show the intensity by giving various expressions, talk to them about various facets of life in a way they can understand, give them time – not just 15 minutes a day
- If you want to be a successful businessman even during recession, use F.I.T.T. – come up with interesting and new products / services for your clients frequently, be intensely involved in doing one thing at a time, do keep upgrading yourself with the latest developments in your industry and implement them at your workplace, give dedicated time and attention to your business even if things seem slow – maybe a blockbuster idea is just a thought away
- If you wish to always remain happy, F.I.T.T. would be immensely helpful – decide to stay happy more frequently irrespective of situations and others’ behaviour, when you are happy be intense and know that this is what makes you happy, know enough things about you which make you feel happy, do enough things in your daily routine which will make you feel happy for maximum time of the day
What I am sharing here is not rocket science. It is simple, but profound. These are just a few situations. But, if you think about your life, and if there is something, which is not going the way you would like it to go, I am sure something out of F.I.T.T. must be missing.
Vis-à-vis my life –
This was a very interesting concept for me. When I thought of some things, which can be made better, I realised that either frequency was missing, or the intensity was low, or I was being monotonous, or I wasn’t doing it enough number of times.
A solution to any issue in life cannot be put in a simpler way than this concept from the fitness industry. An old proverb says – ‘A healthy mind in a healthy body!’. With this concept, let’s rephrase it to a F.I.T.T. Body = F.I.T.T. Mind! Let’s all be F.I.T.T.
