I have been wanting to go to the banks of the Ganges. The Ganga arti has always fascinated me. As i navigate through some pictures, the tranquil setting by the riverside where devotees offer water to the sun god reflected some connection .

And i realised ……

There is a fascinating connection between Tratak and the ancient Indian practice of offering water to the Sun God after taking a bath.

(Well, if you want to know about TRATAK , read my previous blog :

Tratak )

In ancient Indian tradition, offering water to the Sun God, especially during sunrise, is a sacred ritual signifying reverence and gratitude towards the source of light, warmth, and life.

Just like Tratak involves gazing at a candle flame to enhance focus and concentration, offering water to the Sun God involves directing our attention towards the SUN, the ultimate source of light and energy. During sunrise and sunset , sun’s rays are softer making it a comfortable focal point to gaze at.

When the sun’s rays pass through the water offered during the ritual, they create a spectrum of seven colors. These colors are believed to have therapeutic effects on the body and mind, similar to how different colors affect our moods and energies.

Bathing opens up the pores of the skin, making the body more receptive to sunlight. As we offer water to the Sun God and bask in the morning sun, our body absorbs maximum vitamin D, promoting bone health, immunity, and overall well-being.

By integrating Tratak with the ritual of offering water to the Sun God, we align our inner focus with the external forces of nature. Just as Tratak enhances our inner awareness and concentration, offering water to the Sun God connects us with the divine energy present in the sun and its life-giving rays.

The practice of offering water to the Sun God after taking a bath shares a resemblance to Tratak, offering not only spiritual connection but also therapeutic benefits through color therapy and vitamin D absorption, enriching our mind, body, and spirit with ancient wisdom.

Also in essence, offering water to the sun serves as a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness with nature and the blessings bestowed upon us each day. It cultivates a spirit of gratitude.

  1. Love the connection you make between ancient practices and the reason behind it!
After all it is not always about doing rituals, but understanding the science behind it!
    Well compiled!
