Helping young kids to socialise!

Loading

It’s not uncommon for kids at the tender age group of 3-5 years to feel shy or hesitating to socialise.

Here are a few things we could keep in mind as parents:

1. It’s normal: every child develops at its own pace and every child is unique. Some may be shy or introvert while some may be more outgoing.

2. Let’s provide opportunities for the kid to interact while make sure we respect the kids comfort level and personality. Consider arranging for play dates at home or age appropriate activities.

3. Encourage the child to interact but don’t force. Allow them to take their own time and pace to approach social situations.

4. Support your kids efforts to socialise, praise them. Let them know you are proud of them.

5. Montior their progress and if you feel that not being able to socialise is causing any sort of distress or impacting their overall well-being, consult a specialist.

But important, is to remember, socialising is a skill that needs time and practice to develop. As long as our child is happy, healthy and developing at their own pace, there is no need to worry too much.
