This is a million-dollar question, isn’t it?
This question and it’s answer is relevant to anyone and everyone is wants to be fit and wants to live a healthy life
There is unlimited flow of diet plans, dieticians, so called healthy foods, salad recipes, soups, workouts, gadgets, and much more! The health and fitness industry is booming like never before. There are so many people who have left their respective professions and jumped into the fitness industry.
I have always believed that our fitness is based on two aspects – food and workout. In order to stay fit, I need to have a balance of both. We can’t nullify either one of the them. The one who finds the right balance between the two, invariably stays fit!
I have been extremely watchful about my fitness. If my physical body is kept in a good state, I am at a liberty to do what I want to do. I am not restricted by saying – my body doesn’t allow me to do it. With this thought in mind, I have been exercising for the last 20 years very religiously and voluntarily. I was never pushed or motivated to workout. I always ‘wanted’ to work out.
Neither did I have weird eating habits. I ate that which was needed. I love eating food. But I choose to eat lesser portions of not so healthy things and major portion of healthier things. I don’t smoke or consume alcohol as I feel it isn’t going to help my health.
Hence, even when I meet people after 10 years, they have the same thing to say about my health – you still look the same or they say – you have maintained yourself brilliantly well.
The focus of this blog though, is – DIET or food and not on exercise. So, let me stick to it.
So, what is the right diet for you?
Right diet will vary for each and every human being. There is no one right diet. It needs to change depending on my geographical location, my body type, my DNA, my lifestyle, my routine, etc.
So, here are a few tips or suggestions from my experience regarding diet –
- Follow any diet for atleast two years. Crash diets for 21 days, or diet plan for 2 months etc. never help you. The moment you stop, your body bloats or weight increases dramatically
- The diet should make you feel energized and not lethargic
- Eat more local food. Eg: Eat more Roti, Sabzi, Dal, Chawaal if you are in India and eat lesser of Pizza and Pasta
- If you are following a diet, ensure there are cheat meals every week. If you don’t have such cheat meals, the tongue craves for that food and invariably you end up eating too much of it
- Eat lesser carbohydrates, don’t avoid them totally. Eg: If you have Roti-Sabzi, eat more of sabzi and lesser of Roti
- Do not overeat any one food. Excessive of anything is always harmful.
- Eat smaller portions of that which is not healthy
- Drink enough water after food
- Between your last solid meal and sleep, let there be atleast 3-4 hours gap
There are many more tips. But I think these are the basic ones that we must follow for a healthy body.
If I have to sum it up in one line on – WHAT IS THE RIGHT DIET, I would say – Any diet, which you can follow for a lifetime is the right diet!
